What happened to Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, and now people like Dan Bongino is virality. They went viral and got swept up in playing to the audience, who wanted more sensational storytelling more often.

To me it seems very similar to what you see with from social media and blogging celebrities. It's rare that a nuanced and complex approach to emotionally charged topics goes truly viral. So there's little money or attention in it. So the people who have views and clicks on their mind aren't aiming for nuance or complexity.

I used to discount conservatism as a whole because I was always liberal. But that's a mistake. Conservatism is an attitude that predates America, and predates any of the debates we're having now. It informs them to an extent, but so much of what's helpful about conservatism gets lost.

For instance, one element of conservatism is a skepticism of systemic political solutions to problems. It's a healthy attitude to have. After all, why assume that the government can magically solve a problem with quick and sweeping action? But when that skepticism becomes a refusal to allow any governmental solution to a problem, that's not healthy.
