Tony, I totally understand what you’re saying. I guess my worry — which I didn’t really dig into in my piece — is about expectations.
With these titles proliferating and continuing to get eyes on them, 2 questions emerge:
- Are we conditioning ourselves to have unreasonable expectations, and then building a cottage industry off of them to boot?
- Are all those extra eyes drawn in by hyperbole going to really benefit? I guess this is a skepticism about the idea that the more people that click through, the more there are that will benefit. I think there may be diminishing or disappearing marginal returns.
