That statement is the opposite of what Kierkegaard was saying. He pointed out that most people never get past the second stage of life — so they can grow into old age, but merely be looking to the rules and roles, while never engaging with a higher purpose. I’ve seen evidence of this — with people who have reached the stage of old age (which you call the third stage) without being engaged with higher purpose.
