I’m a huge fan of what Taosim has to say about quite a few things — specifically the concept of wu wei. I’m not at all sure that the 80% approach is at all yang, but largely because it helps you to get back to what you’re suggesting — which is eating intuitively. I think our modern way of eating has led us away from being connected to our guts. We eat when we’ve habituated ourselves to, and an amount we’ve habituated ourselves to. I think it takes a little effort to get back to a place of trusting your gut — both literally and figuratively.
I also agree with your bullet point about stopping work when you feel foggy or your body is tired. However, I think many of us believe that we’re too tired or foggy when really, we’re looking for an excuse to stop for other reasons.
