I am a leader of a team of 4 people — with people moving in and out of that team semi-regularly. But I’m also in sales, and on the road constantly. I find it hard sometimes to be engaged and be the leader I know my team deserves, but I think you’re right about workforces being too often beleaguered. I feel that for my people daily. The best leaders can do — especially when stretched thin — is just keep touching base with the people. Don’t pretend you’ve got the solutions, just touch base with the people, get their thoughts and feelings, and serve them as much as you can.
