It is a fine line that exists between helping people deal with their reactions to situations and deluding them into thinking that it is their fault that they are not achieving their dreams.

Perhaps Banks and others wrote a lot about not being too hard on oneself, and ensuring readers that outside forces play a large part in how much you can achieve. But the problem is that those here on Medium who regurgitate the writings of that older self-help crowd don’t seem to be telling both sides of the tale.

My worry is just that so many impressionable, not-yet-developed minds may end up feeling worse about themselves because they were only hammered with one part of the message.
