people I know often take stress from work into their homes and then not talk about it. It becomes an issue, because their loved ones are not advisors but mainly people who they need to de-stress. In that regard, in my opinion, it is a balance

I totally agree that people take stress home from work all the time. I do. My wife does (though she works from home). But what we’ve done is invest in each other’s professional successes. So when we talk, we talk through the stresses we feel in our work, which allows for better understanding between the two of us.

As a whole, whatever emotional battle you’re fighting that you aren’t able to talk through with someone close to you, that’s another brick in the wall between you and that person. I choose to have as few bricks as possible, and work will simply not be one at all.
