I recommended this because it’s interesting, but I’m not sure I agree with the conclusions that you draw. The checks and balances of the US are effectively the Supreme Court and Congress. If Congresspersons want to be re-elected, they will need to take into account that people voted for and elected Donald Trump. Based on how unforeseen that was, they won’t be able to discount that his extremism was part of his appeal, and so I’m not sure that they will be so bold as to stand in his way in Congress. If they are not, then it will be easier for a more extreme conservative judge to get appointed to the Supreme Court…and there go your checks and balances.
Is that extremely likely? Who am I to say? I was pretty sure it was extremely likely that Clinton would win, so my predictive prowess goes out the window when it comes to politics.
