I haven’t gone back and looked, but I have a few hundred pieces out there now. Some have done quite well, the early ones flopped, and here and there, some fall flat. I’m not sure any of them qualifies as viral. Probably not.

That brings me to your statement that there is a luxury in not going viral. I would second that, for sure. I have fantasized about going viral (as probably every internet writer has) many times. Here recently, I have ended those fantasies by thinking, but damn, how fortunate am I that this next piece can be literally whatever I want it to be?

Kind of cool. I’ll keep my freedom, and my modest audience, because they are interested in what I have to say, and because they recognize the same value that I do in what I write. It is a very cool thing, so long as you stop and realize it.
