Absolutely. I see so much terrible advice — especially on the internet — that is based on the idea that it doesn’t matter what people think of you. But this is dead wrong. What other people think of you governs what kind of possibilities are open to you, and thus how things go in your life.

Other people’s perceptions of you — even when not totally correct — can be great opportunities for self-improvement. We ignore that at our own peril.
